Class – a statement

Common Wealth would like to make clear that we are not involved in ‘The Elephant in the room’ led by Ellie Harrison. Common Wealth does not endorse it despite the event having

1. the same title as Common Wealth’s event CLASS the elephant in the room
2. using the same image of a person dressed in an elephant costume
3. having the same focus as the project -ie socio-economics and art
4. being scheduled after Common Wealth’s event

Both the artist, Ellie Harrison and producer, Create London have denied any prior knowledge of our performance CLASS the elephant in the room, and assert that any similarity is a “coincidence”. We leave it to others to draw their conclusion as to the truth of any such assertion on the part of the artist/producer.

Common Wealth would like to make clear that we would not use a term or mechanism as “means-tested incentive” in any of our work, because such a concept does not represent the values of what we stand for. We believe in a universal and inclusive approach to reducing inequality.

We will continue to develop our original idea CLASS the elephant in the room across the UK as planned.
