We are so excited to announce our new show RIGHT/S is part of the @bradford_2025 programme!

Are we really all innocent until proven guilty?

Right/s is a major new work about freedom, justice and youth culture in the 21st century made by Common Wealth, commissioned by Bradford 2025 City of Culture and performed by a incredible cast of 20 young people, rappers & DJs from Bradford.

Right/s explores the criminalisation of young people across society – and how knowing our rights can give us the power we need to shape our future.

From club night to courtroom and beyond, see you there!

We've had a great day here in Costa St Mellons, despite the weather! 🌧☔️

We met with Patrick Jones and had a first read through the new writing he has produced for How To Build A Town, inspired by the testimony of people living in St Mellons. We're really looking forward to sharing food and stories with our neighbours, and dreaming about what we could change in our community! Here's a little sneak peek into Patrick's notebook.

I asked Patrick about why he's passionate about this project and he said, "I believe we need words to make us feel less alone and this project with Common Wealth attempts to bear witness to people’s lives and create a piece of theatre in the midst of a cross fertilization of a public meeting, a party, a protest and the
community’s response to a local development plan."

💥 We wanna meet people who have a lot to say about the world, media & politics. You’ll be performing as yourself, not acting a character
💥 It's a paid opportunity. Either £4k or £1.4k fees depending on role
💥 Auditions are being held across Bradford in October

We're on the look out for the next generation of Speakers Corner!

Our amazing @speakerscornercollective have smashed their exams and are moving onto their next chapter as change-makers, leaders, speakers and inspirational young women in their respective fields, we wish them all the luck in the world!

But, that means we're on the look out for young women and girls from Bradford (14+) to join our Speakers family!

Do you have opinions and lots to say? Do you wanna create positive change in Bradford? Are you passionate about global social issues? Are you ambitious and want to get transferrable skills for future education or employment?

We meet every Wednesday 5-7pm at Common Space BD1 3JT, we can't wait to meet you ✨✨

Creating a safe space for people is at the heart of what we do at Common Wealth so having a night of dancing, food, culture and sisterhood to open our festival was a beautiful moment.

Our Speakers Corner producer @mariyahkx did an absolutely amazing job organising the event, and a big thank you to Speakers Corner & Performance Collective member @noorafasa for being such an incredible spokesperson as always and leading the best bhangra workshop for our young people 💃✨

We live alone, we speak multiple languages, we are nerds, we have experience of being failed by the system, we fix things.

A new, early stage performance featuring our Performance Collective as collaborators and performers.

There was dancing, food, reflections of the good and bad, honest conversation and working together to find collective solutions to personal and political challenges 💥💥

What if you could build the future of our neighbourhood?

How To Build A Town will look at what needs to change and how communities can be central to shaping the places we live for future generations. You will have the opportunity to be part of a performance based conversation which will influence decision making in Cardiff. Your voice will make a difference and have an impact on the future of St Mellons.

How to Build a Town will bring together residents, people who work in the area, the council, and other decision-makers, to explore the change that needs to be made and the community's future needs.

It will include conversations, eating together, and sharing monologues and poetry created from testimonies of the people of St.Mellons, written by Patrick Jones.

How To Build A Town will take place from 6pm until 8pm at St Mellons Hub. Everyone is welcome!

We’ll be serving free food! Come and eat with your neighbours, and talk about what matters to you.
