She Built An Estate
Maggie Chapman is a notorious Bradford activist from the Lower Grange Estate – famed for essentially campaigning to get the whole estate built – housing improved, a doctor’s surgery, greengrocer, a community centre, all of which still thrive today. We worked with local councillor and fellow activist Bev Mullaney and filmmaker Jack King to create a short film portrait of Maggie Chapman – a snapshot that only begins to capture Maggie’s incredible life and the difference she made. Bev came to us as we were making Radical Acts and said ‘you have to meet Maggie Chapman’ – Maggie is one of the most Radical women we’ve met and embodies what it means to lift others up, work grassroots and take action. One of the most beautiful moments of our Radical Acts shows was when Maggie came to see the show and connected with the actors before and after, tears in people’s eyes, she’s famous to us.
