Read moreJoin Common Wealth and Crab & Bee for a 2-day long workshop, exploring routes and narratives of connection.
We will be looking at the way that shapes in the landscape and built environment can both connect and divide people. We will be looking at connections and divisions between the communities of Llanrumney and St Mellons and searching for ways in which stories and routes can connect them.
We’ll be considering whether Old St Mellons can work as a connecting space for the two communities. In one of the sessions we’ll also be looking at the routes taken by water and how these can be used to connect members of the communities to the sea.

ABOUT: Crab & Bee
The main focus of the Crab & Bee collaboration is to explore, uncover and facilitate engagement with the hidden histories and present-day secrets of everyday spaces through artworks, publications and performances. We address spaces of exclusion, amnesia, crisis and marginalisation by creating art works, exhibitions, performances, walks, maps and guides that facilitate others (particularly those excluded) to connect to their terrains and to the stories of those places.
We work specifically in areas of marginalisation and exclusion to create spaces, platforms, scores and actions for intense engagement with art-making and place-making. We have created numerous artworks in the marginalised suburbs of Plymouth (eg., ‘Plymouth Labyrinth’ with a participatory exhibition in Stonehouse, 2019, ‘Coxside Smoke Signal’ with the Teats Hill community in 2020-1), while contributing to cutting edge performance (’10 Scores For A Wild City’ for UNFIXED Festival, Glasgow, 2021, 5 micro-films of site-specific performance for State of Emergency [The Box], 2021) and readings /performances with WonderZoo, Soapbox Culture, Plymouth Respect Festival and others.
ABOUT: Everyone is an Artist
Common Wealth believe everyone is an artist. You might have been really creative as a kid or a teenager and then stopped for whatever reason or you might make and think about art and performance in your spare time.
Everyone is an Artist is an ongoing series of workshops from Common Wealth that unlock or unleash something in ourselves. Introducing us all to new art forms and artists and thinking about the potential there is in ourselves and hopefully in turn, in our city.
