Jobs

Do you believe in the power of theatre, art and storytelling to create social change?

Join The Commons, a working-class movement that challenges and champions what art can be.

We’re looking for thinkers, dreamers, makers, builders and co-conspirators to help us create art for social change – especially for working class people.

The Commons is something we make together – the space and stories we share, the belief that art is for everyone. We’re building a movement from where we stand, starting with The Commons, a community board made up of 12 people, 6 from South Wales and 6 from Bradford, all with different perspectives and from different backgrounds.

What we’ll offer

The Commons will meet for 7 sessions, from September 2026. Each session will last 2 hours and take place over 13 months.

Members are paid above the Living Wage, £15 per hour, to attend all sessions. Everyone will be paid, regardless of your personal circumstances – feel free to ask us how this works.

Some sessions will take place in person in Cardiff or Bradford, some online. We’ll see a live performance together at least once during this period. We’re happy to support access needs and can discuss this with anyone applying.

What you’ll do

Members of The Commons will:

  • Act as a critical friend to Common/Wealth, through dialogue and collaboration
  • Advocate for Common/Wealth and build supporters in Cardiff and Bradford, through networking and grassroots action
  • Participate in creative processes to shape our work, drawing on personal experience and community networks
  • Listen to and support the development of our process and keep us aligned with the Common/Wealth ethos
  • Undertake training to support collaboration within The Commons
  • Input into Common/Wealth policy and strategy
  • Represent Common/Wealth at events, including conferences, shows, and panels

We’re looking for

  • Anyone who believes in the power of activism to achieve change
  • Community leaders, passionate parents, grandparents uncles or aunties
  • Local people interested in your community
  • Organisers who are motivated to make an impact
  • Working-class artists who are passionate about transforming culture
  • Curious people interested in developing creative skills and knowledge

The Commons is open to everyone aged 16 and over
