Kath Davies
Trustee
Originally from Ystradgynlais in the Swansea Valley and a Welsh speaker, Kath believes deeply that working class and marginalised communities should have the opportunity to tell their own stories in their own voices and be heard. She is committed to the much needed redistribution of cultural wealth and control.
Kath has over 35 years’ experience in the cultural sector in Wales. As Director of Investment and Funding at the Arts Council of Wales, she was responsible for managing the Lottery Funding programmes and also worked closely with members of the Arts Portfolio across a range of different issues. Kath led the Arts Council Capital programme and was instrumental in the creation of new venues and the improvement of existing facilities.
In January 2020 she took up the role of Director of Collections and Research at Amgueddfa Cymru – Museum Wales – returning to her roots as a curator and historian. Kath is particularly proud of the museum’s work on the decolonisation of its collections, broadening out the research programme by making lived experience a valued ‘qualification,’ and supporting the development and delivery of a more inclusive exhibition programme. She also led the Welsh Government backed CELF initiative which seeks to make the national collection available to venues and communities across Wales.
Now retired, Kath is focussed on supporting values-driven organisations with deep community roots.
