Rachel Dawson

Communications Associate

Rachel joined Common Wealth in 2024 as Communications Associate in Cardiff. Rachel has gathered a broad range of experience in the third sector. Most recently she has been working in engagement at Age Cymru. Previously, she worked with homeless people at Cardiff YMCA, emergency services personnel at Mind Cymru, and survivors of domestic violence at Cardiff Women’s Aid. In 2012 she was one of the founders of Songbirds Choir for LGBT+ people, which continues to grow.

Rachel published her debut novel, Neon Roses, in 2024. Neon Roses is a coming-of-age queer romance set against the political backdrop of the 1980s. In 2020 she won a New Writer’s Bursary from Literature Wales, which enabled her to complete her novel, and in 2024 she will be one of the Writers At Work at Hay Festival. Her first short play was performed at the Sherman as part of Cardiff’s Queer Fringe Festival 2022.
