There is an Alternative is an interdisciplinary art exhibition with 9 artworks exploring new ways of thinking and organising around issues of our time; social care, the climate crisis, pregnancy, the immigration system, medication, queer culture, fast fashion, youth violence and invisible labour.
This exhibition is about the here and now, it is also about our future and the world we want to build – and pass on.
Artforms include installation, video, audio, photography, illustration, printmaking and textiles. Art can be a tool for change, allowing us to access new perspectives and possibilities.
‘There is No Alternative’ was a phrase used by Maggie Thatcher in the 80’s, it diminished hope & possibility. It feels ever pressing to be talking about alternatives, building up solidarity & using art to help us imagine things differently.
The exhibition will open from Tuesday 20th July – Saturday 21st August from 12-5pm each day at Common Space in Bradford City Centre, 1-3 John Street, BD1 3JT
Please let us know if you have any access requirements. Touch tours and audio descriptions are available. The exhibition is on the ground floor and is wheelchair accessible at ground level. Disabled toilets are upstairs and unfortunately – although the lift is working – it does not meet modern wheelchair size requirements. There are disabled toilets accessible within Oastler Market (within the same complex as us) Please be in touch with any questions to Shazia on [email protected]
